This was both an interesting recital and a not really at all interesting recital.

It was interesting as one had the chance to hear a range of music by women composers from the early Classical period (Haydn – time) up to the early 20th C and it was lovely to see the name Cecile Chaminade on the programme as my mother had the sheet music for this which she used to, apparently, play.

However, the recital was not interesting as the quality and interest of the music, with one, slight, exception, was in no way musically interesting. ‘Pleasant’ would be the best word. The excpetion was a piece by the African-American musician Margaret Bonds which had some distinction and made for more interesting listening.

Still, a nice event.
