The opening was very promising; a viscerally exciting chase of the main characters ‘in medias re’ accompanied by smartly self-referential and witty dialogue - but not too much so. However, as we progressed such scenes became, in a way. separated - there were thrilling action sequences interspersed with wittily effective plot-advancing dialogue but, certainly with the latter aspect, too often the action element interrupted the plot/dialogue scenario as if the film-makers did not have belief in the ability of the audience to maintain their interest and so needed some crazy action to maintain their interest.
But, finally, it was a pretty sound effort - although Cumberbatch was clearly on financially-orientated autopilot - understatement was not an aspect of his performance.
