The first part of this amazing Rebel Fashion provided a spectacular start...although as can be seen from the photos on my Fbk page, from a distance the clothes were slightly lost as the background was too detailed and similar to the clothes themselves.
My favourite section was focused on the amazing Lee (Alexander) McQueen whose radical spirit permeated the whole show and who, in a way, was the ‘onlie begetter’ of the whole event. It was fascinating to be able to see up close some of his actual original creations – and the astonishing tailoring skills were even more apparent when seen in this way. This also confirmed the truth of the adage that in order to ‘break’ something and be revolutionary, you first have to wholly understand everything about what it is you are ‘breaking’. It was also most gratifying to see a full acknowledgement of the central importance of gay/club scene and peeps.
And at the end of this brilliant and imaginatively curated exhibition, you could, slightly, experience a fashion show from the inside, passing through a backstage area (where you could, thanks to modern technology, experiment with various looks (or ‘lewks’?) on yourself and then ‘see’ a show with a catwalk of clothes from all the main designers being featured
