From my seat high up at the rear of the hall, I experienced superb acoustics with the orchestral textures being both blended and yet effectively and distinctly separate - and with solo instrumental lines of marvellous immediacy.. The orchestra was not large but while absolutely right for the Beethoven 4 concerto, it seemed to large and heavy for the final work in the programme, Mozart Symphony 39. Except for the final movement which had a lightness and slight edge that was very effective. And the encore of the Figaro overture was fizzing!
But Jan L was the main reason for this event and he gave a wonderfully mature and satisfying performance of this work, with crystalline clarity in the elaborate fngerwork.. Power was there too when needed but never was it excessive. It was one of those performances where I felt that the way he played was absolutely right and musically satisfying for every musical aspect of the work. A wonderful experience.
