Bored Gay Werewolf. Tony Santorella.

This was a lightly entertaining summer read. The central slacker character, refreshingly was at ease with his sexuality, had instead to deal with ‘the werewolf within’ with all the associated concerns of acceptance/ reactions of friends and family/concern about his future life etc. etc. and it gave a nicely original twist to the conventional coming-out story.

Other characters were nicely drawn but I did feel that the climax (entertaining and with some good revelations) was somewhat rushed and cursory. It certainly set the scene for further stories but these I think could well be more conventional monster-hunting dramas in the modern world, which, I think, has been pretty well explored. And the main dramatic drive of the book was, of course, the central characters internal dilemma – and once that was dealt with, where else is there to go? This I think applies both to him and perhaps all the other characters. It will be interesting to see if it is optioned for film/TV.
