The brief opening chapter is a masterclass in style and updating. The novel, it seems, is essentially a modern version of Pride & Prejudice but the author does not blatantly, deliberately and heavy-handedly give us a straightforward Austen parody. Rather it's done very effectively in terms of general but piercingly accurate tone, mood and style. Much looking forward to the rest and hope it lives up to the promise of the opening.

Finished...and more than lived up to promise. A joy to read. Funny and clever and touchingly endearing. Loved the very short chapters and did a really clever updating. Plot and characters at once very Austenian yet wholly modern and believable. Style was superbly elegant and yet managed to be both utterly modern as befitted setting AND very Austen but not mere parody.

Great fun. Must try and catch up on her first ( Prep) which I tended to read when came out a few years ago.
