Neil Gaiman: Neverwhere
Thoroughly enjoyed this. It posits an 'underground/alternate dimension and reality' centred on London. Like his other books there's an amazing range of characters which here seem to be drawn in a little more detail than in some of his other works ( particularly American Gods) where I feel his fecundity of ideas. An work against exploring these fascinating characters in the depth they deserve. Also here the story is tighter structurally as there is focus on one central character whereas with others there is so much sheer content that one feels rather overwhelmed at times.
It's a quick read perhaps helped by this clearer and more direct narrative drive.
