Suicide Squad

Well, finally getting around to doing this! It was good: not Deadpool good ( what will be?) but there was an edgy toxic zest to the film from the very opening, with the vivid fluorescent colours, the jagged and edgy font used and, in the earlier part of the film at least, the camera movement reflected this tense edginess...but not ridiculously so which can result in viewer nausea.

My main adverse criticism ( not just criticism...as my English teacher Ian Whybrow. always said, criticism of something is the recognition of both the good and the bad...) is that they tried to give too much background information about all of the characters. Each had their own intriguing backstory but this was an ensemble film with many characters of equal importance and rather than try to give background on all, it might have been more effective to simply establish them as characters by their words, deeds and interactions wit, perhaps only incidentally, part of their backstory, if that was directly relevant to the situation unfolding onscreen. This might also have been a good sort of 'trailer' for other films ( which may already be in the pipeline...I have lost track of the initial plan!) where one or more of these characters are the main if not sole focus. A part of me wanted to see more of some of the characters...Joker and Margot Robbie in particular...and I felt that that was not and should not be the outcome of the film.

But good violent dirty fun; what more can one ask?
