This was an unutterably dire and dreadful film – a complete waste of the skills and talents used and of my time in viewing. It was flabbily bloated with emphatically crudely drawn characters who were often far too crudely and unconvincingly self-aware.

The music (yes, it’s a musical) was very bland and rambling with often simplistically emphatic rhymes and language to ‘make the point’ (which was often not worth making anyway). There was no smartness, subtlety or mutual enhancement between these two elements,  with each one often merely mirroring what the other was communicating rather than addling something by their combination. Cynthia Erlvo was, to be honest, pretty good and did what she could with the role of Elphaba (her extensive theatre experience standing her in good stead. Ariana Grande was irritatingly mannered and feeble and in no way able to; effectively take on such a central role.

The other characters were a collection of clichés, emotionally and dramatically. I would have got more interest and involvement from watching the ocean pass than I did from this rubbish.
