Dogs of Berlin: Grittily gripping exploration of crime and race in present-day Berlin

A marvellous and illuminating series. I felt that it gave a vivid and accurate portrait of Berlin today with all the different currents that affect the work of the police - racial groupings and conflicts, social likewise, family pressures and political considerations - all the factors that have to be taken into account.

The performances were uniformly excellent and the characters intriguingly well-drawn. And while certain aspects were familiar, there was no sense of the writing being on autopilot and characters being somewhat one dimensional.

It is not until the final episode that the title makes sense, incidentally. And, without hopefully giving too much away, it was remarkable, fascinating, sad, unexpected that when the revelation was made as to the culprit of the initial murder that triggered all subsequent events, it was a very minor, almost trivial stimulus and a sudden act that resulted in the massive city-wide repercussions that the series explores so well..

A quality programme.

Ratched: Almost painfully stylish/stylised back story of the notoriously iconic Mildred Ratched as depicted in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Seven Seconds: Admirably richly detailed series following impact of a hit-and-run accident by a young police officer that examines a commendably wide range of social situations and characteristics
