Although falling into the over-popular category of true-crime re-creation, this was a lot more subtle and nuanced than that categorization might suggest. There was a quiet and at times relentless steadiness of pace and the focus on the effect of the murders on all those involved was what made this a truly gripping experience.
At the end, where there finally was, after so many years, closure for all those involved was remarkably powerful and moving – most surprisingly so for me; I was not expecting this degree of emotional involvement on my part. The film showed how the act of violence (very briefly, almost glancingly shown) had a shockingly long-term effect on all involved, in both their personal and professional lives.
A very fine piece of work.
