A fascinating and deservedly acclaimed piece. This will be a short review, as I need to see it at least one more time to fully appreciate it and realize what I undoubtedly missed on a first viewing.
In many ways it reminded me of Michael Heneke – the watching of his characters by the camera which places us as the apparently omniscient viewer – and yet without a full picture; we see scenes clearly but is this really what we see? Is this ‘the truth’? The camera records and shows but through whose eyes are we seeing the events? Weirdly I felt the camera was both very expressive and com0letely detached and I think it is this swinging between two viewpoints that makes the film so intriguing. But I am not wholly sure; I need to0 see it again. Did my eyes deceive me?
