I may well have been a bit dismissively hasty on my judgement on Part 1 as this was far more engaging and involving - to the extent that I may even go back and re-watch Part 1.
It seemed to be better written and although many of the characters are rather cliched (which is part of the fun, I suppose) this did not come across as irritating in the way it did in Part 1. The development of the story was much tauter than in the first part, althuogh it still seems a little odd to tell the story complely in reverse - but I suppose it does get you thinking back creatively over what you have seen. It remains enjoyably gory with the squishing, cracking sound of an axe being particularly revolting and effective (and widely used). Pacing is good and there were no longeurs. There is also a stronger sense of outsiders being a more significant part of the story than is usually the case in films like these, althuogh not to the extent of the gay female couple in Part 1 which was one of the best aspects of the first part.
Anyway will be able to evaluate the whole cycle once I have seen Part 3.
