This was (largely) light-hearted and enjoyable fun. Emma Thompson was superb, both fearfula nd yet at times endearing as the formidable, long-serving late-night chat show host and Mindy Karling was a good foil whose main draamtic role was to open Emma T’s eyes as to her nature and what she wanted. The sharp edges added much to the overall effectiveness of the piece.
There was a well-drawn cast of characters and relationships between them were effectively shown so that we got a sense of an ensemble of players and it was not just a two-hander. The character growth and final outcomes were all satisfying without ever falling into the trap of implausibility or sentimentality. A very enjoyable way to pass the time
