Little Women. An elegantly faithful version of the classic.

This was a very conventionally faithful and sentimental version of the book – ad the last quality is a central characteristic of the original so the use of the term ‘sentimental’ is not pejorative, merely wholly appropriate. The sense of time and p-lace was very elegantly and effectively conveyed. I liked too the fact that Laurie did not come across as the big drip that he can do in the book and in other versions – not sure how universal twink Timothee Chalamet will manage this in the Gerwig version I am currently offering – but perhaps with him it will not matter.

The balance between the characters was very well maintained and the whole experience was warmingly enjoyable.

Red, White and Royal Blue: Enjoyable if somewhat anodyne, occasionally forced, gay rom-com.

The Age of Innocence; Superb, subtly gripping and wholly satisfying and adult film-making.
