This was pretty impressive. Tension was very well built and maintained without excessive jump shots (although those there are work very well) with excellent slow camera movement and editing. The actual plot is not desperately original - vengeful ghosts from the past affecting characters in the present via a haunted house - but the plotting is good and the very effective shock ending obtained that I did not see coming.
The connection between past and present was convincingly made (the Inquisition and the present day) and sustained and I liked the way that there were, essentially, two sets of characters with whom we were involved for the duration of the film. With sounds being a major plot element, their use throughout was excellent although, as ever, I think that I gained in picking up subtleties in this area through watching with subtitles. This was necessary in this case (with my Spanish being limited to a few favourite dishes and drinks) but for this reason I now do this habitually - and to avoid complaints about having the TV on too loud.
Not a great film then, but an enjoyable Sunday afternoon/early evening distraction.
