Mr Harrigan's Phone; Marvellously engaging drama from a Stephen King story where the supernatural is only incidental (and much the better for that).

·         I stumbled across this by accident although it had been flagged up soon after it dropped as well worth seeing. As with many of his sho0rt stories, the supernatural element in this Stephen King work was only incidental and the whole piece is much more of a perceptive character and relationship study. The supernatural element is there but it does not really drive the plot and, in many ways, is almost the least important aspect. We get very involved in the life and relationship of the two characters, both wonderfully played by the two actors, one a beginner one a veteran. The valuable and cross-generational relationships seem to be a central concern of many of King’s short stories and they are some of his best work, I think. Apt Pupil is another one, although that in terms of the cross-generational relationship is considerably darker, to put it mildly. An excellent, gripping drama
