The Pale Blue Eye. A lugubrious but relentlessly gripping drama

This was slow but quite intensely effective – not least for the icy bleakness of the environment in which it all took place. There was also a certain icy bleakness about most of the characters too and the relationships.   However, finally, there was nothing particularly new about the contents or the style in which this was conveyed. I am not saying it was done by numbers but there was certainly a sense that much had been said, and in this style, many times before.

I liked the way most (all?) of it seemed to have been filmed in natural light or with natural lighting which did help to give it a more original stylistic glass that the plot itself did not provide.

The Lion in Winter: Somewhat stagey but grippingly impressive drama.

Irresistible. A decently effective political satire which almost matches current reality
