Superb; a grippingly accomplished piece of work. There are wonderfully subtle and understated performances from all concerned – and this understatement is in [perfect accord with the strange and self0contained world in which the action takes place. This world is also superbly conveyed by all the details of the lighting and mise-en-scene. The office furniture was all old metal, grey or khaki with sharp edges and old filing cabinets that creaked as they were opened. The lighting too was oppressively effective; harsh overhead fluorescent that was always the same no matter at what time of day or night. This numbingly dreary environment was wonderfully appropriate for the machinations and planning that went on all the time – cold and heartless with no emotional involvement by anyone concerned.
A marvelous piece of work and at least as good as the classic BBC/Guinness version from the previous generation.
