Vampires vs the Bronx. Sweetly charming and knowing tale.

A sweet little gem. What it does it does very well, telling, with commendable focus and brevity, of the antics of a group of tweens in the Bronx who discover that the property company buying up apartments to yuppify the area are vampires.

There are plenty of smart little jokes - the title of a future business (something absurdly characteristic like Rope & Beans) is met with bafflement by the inhabitants… ‘is it a clothes shop or a food business’…and there are some witty acknowledgements to the vampire tradition. The property company is called Murnau and their logo is the common image for Vlad the Impaler while their ‘link’ to the non-vampire world is a Mr Polidori!

The performances are very good and genuine and while the three main characters are pretty standard - the smart leader of the group, the nervous, nerdy one with an allergy and the one who is in danger of being drawn into the gangsta world - the performances have charm and energy. Lovely little gem.

The Invisible Man. Largely successful and involving update of Wells' idea
