Christopher Hamel: Meeting with Remarkable Manuscripts
Will not read cover to cover ( it's not that sort of book) but riveting so far...and the publication quality matches that of the MSS. Full colour all the way through, an enormous amount and the paper quality is excellent. Read chapter on Book of Kells so far ( only one I've seen) and currently in Carmina Burana.
Have now read three sections and marvellously and elegantly, lightly written...learned but with a witty touch and personal anecdotes that bring the texts alive. I like the different approaches to each text which are appropriate for each one given its nature and history. Really appreciate the high quality of the illustrations to bring home the marvel of these works.
