Daniel Farson: The gilded gutter life of Francis Bacon

Daniel Farson: The gilded gutter life of Francis Bacon

Don't now have copy of this...one of the library that had to go when went Stateside in 2001...but saw in bookshop in Hungarian National Gallery when went to see Bacon, Freud and the London School exhibition from Tate Britain that almost at end of its run. Very good and see main Fbk for longer comments

This is wonderfully vivid picture of amazing lost world of these artists, the characters of the 50's and 60's drinking clubs in Soho and their adventures. Farson was an intimate of this world so book is gloriously unrestrained. Book also my source for discovering my favourite toast...was apparently Bacon's too but do not think he originated it...

'Champagne to your real friends

Real pain to your sham friends'

Does not work visually but aurally...!
