Jane Meyer: Dark Money; The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right
Just started and got father history and childhood. Not nice.
And having finished...
Depressing and illuminating in equal measure. The latter part covering very recent history is familiar but fascinating to see how it was a ( partial) culmination of a major and VERY smart long-term plan.
The early part is illuminating with the grim family background, the toxic sibling relationships and rivalry and yet more proof that money does not bring happiness ( and certainly not decency or gratitude)
The information about his think tanks and universities are so smartly used a incubation vessels for the dissemination of ideas is riveting. I shall look on George Mason university with different eyes now! Politicians (autocorrected just now to 'oily icings' which is pretty good) come out, unsurprisingly, appallingly badly...their craven kow-towing to these groups which is a result of the ludicrous fund and money demands of the whole corrupt process...
If there is one element though that had the worst ( but planned?) effect it is the Citizens United decision a decision that will surely go down in historical infamy.
