Queer.: A graphic history. Meg-Jon Barker & Jules Scheele
An excellent and information-packed overview. Very up-to-date (as far as I can judge) and successfully controls the vast amount of knowledge very elegantly and in an accessible way. It makes connections clear too.
Only two slight weaknesses are a lack of at least section indications (although I have made my own detailed one which had the additional benefit of helping me organize the material and become more familiar with it), and perhaps a larger and more extensive bibliography as it is a pretty learned publication, certainly in terms of its subject matter and depth.
A great starting point.
