What fun. Gorgeously imaginative and funny production and performances. The crazy fairy-tale story has been given a production that mateches it - as a video game (with many Tetris aspects to set design). The candy colours add to the joy of the production.
P's music remains as fascinating as ever - that marvellous mix of acidic sweetness and sharply aggressive percussiveness - and so rapidly changing. His romanticism is alwasy tinged with melancholy or acid and I was again reminded what a marvellous melodist he was - under-rated I think.
Vocalists are all excellent but the role of Fata Morgana is one of the most interesting almost requiring Wagnerian power at times, it seems.
Part 2:
And so tha game ends. What enormous fun with a style of production that perfectly matched the style and nature of the story - not the easiest thing in the world to do given the fantastical nature of that story but it all ended wonderfully. A good feeling to have in these times!
Good to see a production of an unusual work like this that really did it imaginative justice.
