Tow fascinating alternative histories of the USA giving voice to the usually voiceless.

A Most Imperfect Union is told graphically and focuses on all the groups who are a central part of the USA story - other than the white male. It has great visual appeal and would work well with young people - although it seems to me that it is very well researched for a serious adul audience as well. It gives a really good, accessible overview.

Days of Destruction is a very good follow-on to the above. It has a visual element too but deals in greater depth with the story of the effects of unbridled capitalism on the country, focusing on different groups in different places at different times but all with the common factor of having ben taken advantage of and forgotten. It also mahgaes to tell the story historically, starting with the Great Plains Indian genocide and ending in modern-day New York.

Both fascinating eye-openers.
