Beethoven concert  MUPA Budapest

Feb 22nd 2020

A lovely evening. I am a great admirer of the MAV orchestra; they seem to have a creative approach to programming – although this programme – Triple Concerto and Symphony 7 – was not the most original but it made for a good evening. And one does not hear the triple concerto that often. It went very well with the joyous 7th as there is a warmly elegant and relaxed air about the work; no great dramatics or emotional angst but just a lovely sunny feel to it. I also noticed the lovely interplay between the instruments and how the figurations were subtly changed when being thrown from instrument to instrument. Very smart as figurations for the cello are not necessarily always suited to the piano and vice-versa.

We were sitting right up in the gods – a very long time since I have bene up there but I really enjoyed it. One could truly appreciate this glorious hall and the acoustics were wonderful. I suppose sitting up here all sounds have perfectly blended.

Much looking forward to my next outing whatever that will be.
