I only visited the boats in the harbor that one could tour – the Captain Cook replica, a submarine and (briefly and slightly less interestingly) a destroyer.
The Cook replica (HMB Endeavour) was superb – as with the others, the first time I had really had the chance to; experience e and explore a vessel like this. The size was a revelation, as was the superb use of space. The guides were excellent -very well informed but not obtrusive and they met all questions thrown at them very well. Stunning to think of how far it sailed with all those people in such conditions.
The submarine HMAS Onslow was equally fascinating – perhaps more so as I had never had any c lose contact with a submarine. Its size surprised me. The last one, the Destroyer HMAS Vampire II was impressive largely because of its size – and those guns. The noise must have been shattering – indeed noises on all vehicles must have been fascinating as there would have been so many and so different. I hope the pictures give some sort of idea of all of this.
