These comments will be relatively brief. I posted many pictures of works from these on my Facebook pages at the time I was in Spain – in the case of this museum between Sept 22nd and Sept 29th, 2022.
This was a little gem that I stumbled across while randomly wandering the back streets – proof, if proof were needed, that this is one of the best ways to get to know a city. From its name, I had thought it would be a large museum exploring all aspects of Romanticism as an artistic movement, but with, perhaps, particular reference to Spain and Madrid. Not so. It is a large private house has been preserved/restored as it would have bene in the middle of the 19th Century and owned and inhabited by a wealthy upper--middle class family. Not a particularly famous one, it seems, but perhaps typical of its class and time. Each room was exquisite, down to the last detail – and yet again, I realized how dramatic and effective it was to use strong and bold colours on the walls. No bland beige here!
Well worth seeking out if you are in the city
