This was enormous fun! Very full, illuminating and it caught very well the anarchic spirit of the comic - down to the more serious background information about the publication its history and characters (and there was plenty of this) usually having a graffiti-style note by it saying things like ‘Boring stuff’ or ‘Not worth stopping to read’. Lovely.
Throughout the exhibition there were example of modern art that had been inspired by the comic or its characters - a remarkably wide range in fact.
The catalogue was in the form of a Beano comic - and very fully comprehensive it was too, re the exhibition - but it was peppered with Beano-style jokes.
A marvellous example of how to make a museum exhibition both enormously enjoyable and highly informative - who would have thought that Wallace (aka Wallace and Gromit) was visually closely based on/related to Plug! Although when you look it does become very apparent.
