Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum Madrid. Sept 22nd 2022

These comments will be relatively brief. I posted many pictures of works from these on my Facebook pages at the time I was in Spain – in the case of this museum between Sept 22nd and Sept 29th, 2022. By no means did I experience the totality of this museum – it was just too vast and I find that my limit for active engagement in an art gallery is a little over two hours – may be a bit more.

When I was going around this museum, marveling at its scope, my first thought was ‘how did one family manage to collect all this material’, assuming that it was essentially just one generation. Big mistake; of course it’s at least three of four generations, all it seems with almost infinite amounts of money to fuel their passion. It was very well curated in that the rooms were relatively small and the contents of each added to and enhanced each other, often by thoughtful contrast or the exploration of an idea/technique/theme by many artists or over a long period of time. It is the sort of place that I would/must return to and I look forward to it.
