Alan Hollinghurst: The Sparsholt Affair

Excellent. Beautifully and elegantly written that matches the characters. Spans many generations and gives a potted history and attitudes to and experiences of being gay. Smooth understatement makes it more effective ( and at times more erotic) than if luridly explicit. But that did work well in The Swimming Pool Library of course.
