Andy Weir: The Martian

Andy Weir: The Martian

Only just started but much enjoying.

Finished and absolutely loved it. Weir creates a wonderful persona for Watney ( as he has suggested, the sort of person he wishes he was...and I think anyone reading this would feel the same). There's a wonderfully dark and sardonic snarky humour that runs like a thick lode of gold, through the whole work and makes the reading a joy. It's grippingly told and while complete understanding of exactly what he does from day to day was certainly not there for this reader, it still remained remarkably engrossing...and yet I'm still not sure why. An intriguing question to consider.

When we first moved away from Mars and back to earth I thought the writing very much displayed its stylistic I expertise. It seemed flat and stodgy with little vivid individuality but as the story progressed I noticed this less and less and finally it was a non-issue.

If you've seen the film, read the book. Just as gripping ( more so) and the book is much funnier. If vice-versa, yes, see the film and come away with renewed admiration for the book.
