Sarah Schmidt: See What I Have Done
After reading just first part, multi voiced narratives it seems, starting with Lizzie. Her voice is stunningly intense and this is superbly conveyed by the writing and style. Sentences are aggressive and jerky and the language is very vivid. I felt I was inside her mind from the very start...and it seems to be a pretty intense and dark one. She (Lizzie) seems to see and experience the world incredibly intensely...visually it's early Technicolour double-plus. It's also very physical and sweats and smells are conveyed remarkably intensely. I have already a very unique and strong sense of place.
We're in a fevered world and and fevered mind it seems...
So now finished and promise of early impressions more than fulfilled. It unfolds thrillingly and slowly and the different voices are a very well-used device. The writing continued to be remarkably vivid and with fine stylistic variations for the characters. Got a real vivid sense of life particularly in the physical sense in small town America at that time.
