Black Hawk Down

Not seen in cinema but from home viewing. Best thing I noticed about it was use throughout...judiciously...of African music as a poignant and effective reminder of who the actions were ostensibly being done for. Also liked the occasional, almost passing shots showing life as it was in the ruined city( shades of Aleppo...plus ca change, sadly). Recall I've tracking shot with bowed adult in centre frame....no emphasis but noted.

I found the first part muddled with too many characters that tricky to identify/ identify with but once Black Hawk was down the multi-personnel focus was effective. Blood looked weirdly and vividly red in contrast to darkness surrounding it, almost as if exaggerated. Was it?

Powerful at end re the soldiers but luckily film eschewed manipulative and swellingly patriotic music to stir the blood; actions and dead eyes grimly and movingly conveyed that and made one wonder at what we put soldiers through and how crudely dumb it is to ( still) solve arguments and ideological conflict through killing each other.
