Kiki's Delivery Service

Yet another wonderful gem from the greatest animation studio in the world (Yes Disney, yes Pixar, accept it!) that sent me out onto the street floating 6 inches above it ( gay, at least 10 inches of course) on a cloud of warm fuzziness.

The story is ostensibly a children's one but as with the best stories and films, it is not restricted to that level. As with all the films, the actual story of wonderfully rich and it engages one every minute of the way with many strands ( I loved the story of the rather dryly ironic witches cat Jiji!) but all the strands as very well controlled and intertwined and connected and all is beautifully tied up at the end. As ever flight is actually an important element in this and not just the flying witches and it is fascinating to see how this has been a constant and endearing and enduring theme through all his films right up to the last one.

Of course the colours and animation, and superbly creative camera angles ( that are always there to help tell the story and not for their own sake) were a joy to behold.

Having seen so many of these now I think too that my musical tastes are expanding to include Japanese pop ( ish) music and am thinking of getting a disc!

Great start to Saturday!
