Elite; Series 7 & 8: And so, with every possible trigger warning shown, the luridly and operatically absurd and enjoyable saga ends.

The latter 2/3 of this series, perhaps not unexpectedly, did not have the overall gripping drive of the first few. Inevitable I suppose when a number of the original cast leave and while the replacements were generally sound, certainly on the aesthetic front (although I did get tired of Joel; ultimate twink gorgeousness only goes so far, particularly if you do not seem to have a brain), the drama did at times seem a little forced and repetitive. There seemed to be too many foci, which led to attention-wandering.

However, this was improved in Series 7 and Series 8, with a tighter focus on those who have been the central character group with the results that my involvement was increased and the final episode did, fundamentally, provide a satisfying conclusion.

But the final scene was excellent and much more dramatically creative than almost anything else that was done in the entire series. SPOILER ALERT… After the school is closed down and the pupils have to go to a public school to take their final exams, the brief final scene simply showed them arriving there (in their luxury vehicles) and the reactions of the two groups (Elite pupils and public school pupils) was marvelous. There was barely any interaction or dialogue (none was needed, with the sole exception with Isa asking for the bathroom to take drugs (and offering them too). The baffled bewilderment on both sides was beautifully caught and, ironically, made the series more realistic as we saw for the first time, the actual world in which the majority live and from which the Elite pupils were shielded. A smart creative move.

Supacell. Very smartly original mash-up of MCU-characteristics and Top Boy

Big Boys; Series 1: Alternately funny and touching dramedy.
