The Code. Series 1: Riveting, richly plotted and characterised political thriller from Australia

I have only recently discovered that Australia makes some really fine drama series - and this was certainly one of them. there was a very fine mix of political skulduggery and shenanigans combined with personal dramas. The plotting was very well done and complicated enough to keep one really involved without being unnecessarily muddled and complicated.

The two central characters (brothers) had a fascinating relationship as one was effectively the carer for the other who has Aspergers and is a brilliant hacker, on house arrest as an alternative to prison and the other h]being responsible for him almost 24/7. The stresses and strains on their relationship was very perceptively shown and I felt, although I am no expert, that the portrayal of autism was well, accurately and sensitively done - but would much welcome comment from people with far greater knowledge of this as to whether this really was the case.

Likewise, in another area where I am very much a non-expert - that of high-level hacking - the way it was shown seemed to be very convincing and it had enough ‘technical’ content to be intriguing without one needing a degree on the subject to know what was happening; one could remain with a degree of innocence and yet this not affect ones involvement with the drama. I also liked the visual that accompanied the process which had the same sort of effect.

It was all wrapped up convincingly - perhaps a tad too quickly, on reflection - but other than this the pacing and unfolding of the story was masterly. It will be interesting to see how the second series compares and how plot elements and character relationships are developed.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Series 3. Largely involving and enjoyable continuation of the saga

The Minions of Midas. Unusual and gripping thriller with genuinely original and effective conclusion
