What Did Jack Do? David Lynch at his most gnomically B & W weird.

https://youtu.be/86ajK0EOq6I An excerpt, not a trailer

Certainly one of the strangest little films (and one of the shortest - at only 12 minutes, its understandable that there does not seem to be a trailer) that I have seen - recently and ever.

Lynch, as a detective (a somewhat awkward performance,I felt) is interviewing a capuchin monkey about a crime he may or may not have committed. The contrast of the little monkey face with the world-weary and grating voice emanating from it is wonderfully disturbing but it is suprising at how quickly one adjusts.

So much that could be said for such a short piece…The dialogue is a weird mish-mash of cliches from hard-boiled police interrogations as well as more ‘ordinary’ exchanges. At the start the non-sequitors recalled the old pen-and-paper game Consequences - but without their clear and understandable logic! The musical excerpt above is from near the end and is one of two such ‘interludes’ Amazingly, by the end, one is aware that one has got very invilved with this story and that it has.

Do watch and be baffled!
