Andrew Michael Hurley: The Loney

Andrew Michael Hurley: The Loney

Just started. Very intriguingly atmospheric. Recalls setting of The Woman in Black, which must be good.

And also Graham Swift , Waterland

So now done. It turned into something rather different at the end and rather than being a largely uneventful, slow burn meditation on exploring the thoughts and minds of a group of people where the remarkably powerful and richly evocative physical setting was the focus, it became a meditation and exploration of the loss of faith and the role that we can make faith play in our lives. This happened unusually quickly but it was nevertheless convincing.

The role of the narrators was especially intriguing as by the end I had a very different sense of him to that I had for the majority of the tale.

Most enjoyable and quite thought-provoking.
