I, Tonya

I was initially ambivalent about seeing this as recalled the events and always am unsure about interest and value of films on recent ( or not so recent ) events but trailer ( and Margo R) intrigued me. She is charismatic..she has that special thing that makes her light up the screen and u cannot take your eyes off her.

Janney is horrifyingly riveting as the mother from hell who is up there with Mommy dearest but who nevertheless still has some shards of humanity left..the parrot on her shoulder in the end credits which trying for affection is constantly rebuffed...but she did choose to have it. Nicely subtle observation.

Directly filmed with intriguing use of sometimes split screen where characters address what is/will be shown..and the uncertainty is very cleverly maintained re 'truth' of the story.

It's also I think something of a picture of the USA...the class/social divide, the lack of mutual empathy between different groups and how people slip through the cracks and get forgotten.

Super film and hope Robbie and Janney succeed with Oscars ( they were both nominated weren’t they?)
