Beckham. Intriguing documentary that smartly gives the impression of being a 'warts and all' picture.

This was a greatly enjoyable and, largely, informative series. The football focus worked very well and I perhaps for the first time, realized how astonishingly gifted Beckham was as a player – and if I can see that…He and Posh/Victoria came across as a really decent couple, marvellously family-oriented – although D’s later international career moves showed that he could and would choose that rather than family. They also came across as a VERY smart media-savvy couple – loved the fact that in the very first shot of the series B’s immaculate beekeepers outfit had his initials DB on the front in gold!.

The documentary, although sort of marketed as ’tell all everything’ piece of work was emphatically NOT that. They talked about precisely what they wanted to talk about and the alleged affair in Spain (perhaps, if true, understandable as B was on his own, in a foreign country, away from young family) was referenced and then firmly shut down by him – in a very nice way.)

Each of the episodes had a lovely bit of fly-on-the-wall chat between the director and Beckham, n a very relaxed home setting – but again, definitely showing exactly what he wanted shown.

Family dynamics were interesting – that is his actual family and his vital Man U family although t would have been interesting to probe Alex Ferguson more about the aftermath of him selling Beckham on.
