I have watched the first two series of Elite - the first I found absolutely, cheesily and ridiculously gripping, the second somewhat less so - not least as the central plot device (and following structure) of revealing the truth about the opening sensational event through accounts of the time through different eyes seemed rather tired. But the series was…OK. However when I started the 3rd series, I stopped after only a couple of episodes - it really did seem as if they were simply re-treading old ground and were not adding anything dramatically or emotionally involving - although the cast remained as ridiculously hot as ever, not least Patrick whose school shirts were always missing the top three of four buttons…And there is also a fourth series as well.
These two series of (very short films focus on individuals/pairs/trios from the series and either fill in an aspect of a plotline in the main series that was only referenced or just give us some more information about a character who may perhaps not have been one of the principal foci in the series. Although these were all produced after the events of Series 4, it was perfectly easy to follow and be involved and one did not ned to have seen all that happened in the past -although if you were familiar with the characters or some aspects of the situation then that did make the episodes better.
The brevity of commendable - only 3 episodes per character(s) and each episode about 10-12 minutes long. This seems to be a smart way of filling on gaps/rounding characters more with0out going over the top and feeling that full-length episodes are required. It will be interesting to see if any other series follow this approach - I think this is the first series for which this technique has been applied - although I do wonder if COVID had an element to play as all of the episodes have only a couple or so characters and no major crowd scenes.
